Risto comes from Oulu. Music studies at school brought him to Tampere to study ethnomusicology. After finishing his studies he lived and worked in Tampere, Kaustinen and Kokkola, and also in Vienna, Austria. He has given performances not only with Vilddas but also with Slobo Horo, Kalle Palm and Romales band and with various artists (for instance Kari Haapala, Teppo Nuorva, Jouko Mäki-Lohiluoma and Sanna Korkee). Among other things Risto is interested in gipsy music (academic dissertation to the University of Tampere), folk and world music (assistant in magazines Aksentti and Friiti) and hanging around, both at home and downtown. He plays bass and percussion instruments in Vilddas. Nowadays Risto works in the folklore archives at the Finnish Literature Society in Helsinki.
